Vendhayam

Trigonella foenum-graecum L. · Fabaceae

Vendhayam, methi in Hindi, is fenugreek, a small pea-family herb whose bitter, maple-scented seeds and fresh leaves are both everyday Indian foods. Rajasthan grows most of India’s fenugreek, and Nagaur is famous for kasuri methi, dried leaves named after the town of Kasur. A few seeds go into idli and dosa batter in Tamil homes. Trials suggest fenugreek seed can modestly lower blood sugar.
